Math Flash

Intermediate

Math is happening right now! People around the world are working hard to apply mathematics to new problems in the real world, and to improve our understanding of mathematics itself. Although some ideas in mathematics go back thousands of years, many other things you see in this museum were developed only in the last few years, and more is developed every day. Maybe future visitors to the Museum of Mathematics will see your name pass by with a new mathematical discovery!

Did you know that thousands of pages of new mathematics are written every single day?! Among the most prolific mathematicians alive is Dr. Jennifer Chayes (b. 1957), who for a long time was a Managing Director at Microsoft Research. Currently the Associate Provost for the Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society as well as the Dean of the School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Chayes is the author of hundreds of publications and the holder of dozens of patents.
